Former Jackson State star Travis Hunter signs record rookie NFL contract

Travis Hunter, the electrifying former Jackson State and Colorado two-way standout, has officially signed his rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The deal, a four-year, fully guaranteed agreement worth $46.65 million, includes a record-setting $30.57 million signing bonus paid entirely upfront—a first for a non-quarterback not taken with the No. 1 overall pick.

Hunter, who began his college career at Jackson State under coach Deion Sanders before transferring to Colorado, was selected second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft after the Jaguars traded up to secure the versatile playmaker. Known for his ability to excel as both a wide receiver and a cornerback, Hunter’s arrival brings a new level of excitement and expectation to Jacksonville.

“He does not tire,” said Jaguars general manager James Gladstone. “He’s got a spark, he’s got the energy, the capacity from a physical standpoint to be able to do it is certainly there”.

Throughout offseason programs, Hunter has split his time between wide receiver and cornerback, with the Jaguars planning to use him on both sides of the ball as the season unfolds. Gladstone explained the team’s approach: “We believe cornerback is his more natural position, so we wanted him to gain additional experience early on in the nuances of playing wideout”.

Hunter addressed Jaguars fans directly after signing, saying:

“What’s up, Duval. It’s your boy Travis Hunter and we’re officially locked in. Just signed a contract, so let’s get started”.
