Florida Memorial goes internal with new head football coach hire

After the unceremonious dismissal of former head football coach Bobby Rome, Florida Memorial has formally announced who will be taking over the role.

Former offensive coordinator Michael Jones will be the next head coach of the Florida Memorial Lions.

This is his first head coaching job.

Jones has served on Florida Memorial’s coaching staff since 2020 and has been the team’s offensive coordinator since 2021.

In 2023, Jones was named the Sun Conference Assistant Coach of the Year after directing a Lions offense that went from averaging 18.2 points in 2022 to 37.1 points.

He was then named NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in 2024 after improving the team’s scoring average to 38.0 points per game.

Florida Memorial moved on from Rome after two years at the helm, in which he led the team to a winning record each year.
