Sony Pictures, along with Sam Mendes and Neal Street Productions, announced on Thursday that additional cast members have been added to the upcoming four-film series, The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, as filming continues in the United Kingdom.
Farhan Akhtar has been added to the cast of the upcoming four-film series, playing Ravi Shankar. Lucy Boynton has also joined the cast, playing the role of Jane Asher. Additionally, Morfydd Clark has been added to the cast, playing Cynthia Lennon, while Harry Lawtey has been added, playing Stuart Sutcliffe.
The four-film series is the first time that Apple Corps Ltd. has licensed the rights to the life story and music of the Beatles, which includes John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, for a scripted feature project. Mendes has always wanted to make a four-film series, each based on the story of one of the four Beatles, to tell the story of one of the greatest bands in music history. Mendes has been tasked with directing all four of the upcoming installments of the four-film series, which is being produced by Mendes, along with Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire of Neal Street Productions.
The production team includes many other award-winning individuals, such as Greig Fraser, the Academy Award-winning cinematographer for the upcoming films “Dune” and “Dune: Part Two,” Lee Smith, the Academy Award-winning editor of “Dunkirk” and “1917,” and production designers Stefania Cella, who has worked on “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” and “The Pale Blue Eye,” Mark Tildesley, who has worked on “Banshees of Inisherin” and “Jay Kelly,” and Neal Callow, who has worked on “Bob Marley: One Love” and “Spectre.”
Other notable collaborators include BAFTA-nominated costume designer Sinéad Kidao (Joy, The Pursuit of Love), Academy Award-nominated hair and makeup designer Naomi Donne (The Batman, 1917), Grammy- and Emmy-winning executive music producer Giles Martin (The Beatles: Get Back, Back to Black), Academy Award-winning sound mixer Stuart Wilson (Project Hail Mary, 1917), and BAFTA- and Emmy-winning casting director Nina Gold (Hamnet, Wonka). Executives Toby Hefferman (F1, The Batman) complete the list as executive producer and first assistant director.
Akhtar is a renowned Indian filmmaker, actor, and singer with an illustrious career spanning two decades, including films such as Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Rock On!!, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, The Sky Is Pink, and Marvel’s Ms. Marvel. Boynton rose to international stardom playing Mary Austin in Bohemian Rhapsody, with her latest outings including The Pale Blue Eye and Chevalier. Clark rose to fame with critically acclaimed Saint Maud, followed by Amazon series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Lawtey is best known for playing the lead in the HBO series Industry, with an upcoming appearance alongside Russell Crowe in the thriller Billion Dollar Spy.
The films will be financed and distributed by Sony Pictures, with a planned full theatrical release in April 2028.
