Everything To Know About Angel Reese Being Traded To The Atlanta Dream In Blockbuster Deal

Angel Reese was traded to the Atlanta Dream from the Chicago Sky on Monday in a blockbuster deal.

The Sky traded Reese, 23, in exchange for the Dream’s two first-round picks in 2027 and 2028. The team will also swap second-round picks with Atlanta in 2028, according to a news release from the Dream.

“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Atlanta Dream organization,” Reese said in a news release statement. “I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, connecting with the fans, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.”

The Bayou Barbie also confirmed the news in a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. “An Angel’s DREAM💭 🅰TL WHAT UP?! @AtlantaDream,” she wrote.

The Skey after trading Reese: ‘We are thankful for her many contributions to this league and this game’

Sources told ESPN’s Alexa Philippou that Reese did not request a trade. Instead, the Sky worked closely with her to find a team that suited her best, and that “there was no contention between the two parties.”

“Angel has achieved many record-breaking milestones in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for the Sky,” Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca said.

He continued, “We are thankful for her many contributions to this league and this game, and we know she will continue to have a big impact on the court and beyond.”

Was there tension between Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky?

Reese, drafted No. 7 by the Sky in 2024, has 49 career double-doubles with averages of 14.0 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.

She earned 2024 All-Rookie Team honors, set WNBA rookie records for rebounds (13.1 per game) and 15 consecutive double-doubles, and is the only player to average at least 12.0 rebounds in a season, per the news release.

While Reese had a list of accomplishments with the Sky, the star forward also had a controversial moment with the team. In September, Reese was suspended for the first half of a game after making “statements detrimental to the team,” according to Yahoo! Sports.

At the time, she was already suspended for a game against the Indiana Fever after reaching the technical foul limit. Days before, she made comments to the Chicago Tribune about her frustrations with the team, which may have been a factor in her suspension.

“I’m not settling for the same s**t we did this year,” Reese told The Chicago Tribune. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.

Reese apologized several days after making the comments, saying they were misinterpreted and that she never meant to talk down to her teammates, per Yahoo! Sports.
