The Russian-born fashion model, who died by suicide in 2008, was among a number of teens who flew to Epstein’s island on his private jet, according to recently unsealed court records related to Epstein’s associates.
The flight logs, which are contained in the recently unsealed court documents, reveal that Ruslana Korshunova, then an 18-year-old, boarded Epstein’s private jet, which is commonly referred to as the “Lolita Express,” on June 7, 2006. The flight, which had a number of other people, including Epstein, his bodyguard, his personal chef, and his assistant, landed on his private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, which is where he confessed to molesting underage girls.
The trip occurred just weeks before Epstein’s initial arrest on sex charges. According to the recently unsealed records, Korshunova traveled to the island with a number of other people, including a woman named Stephanie Tidwell, a former UFC fighter, although there is no information on what happened to them once they landed on the island, which is where prosecutors state that Epstein hosted a number of events that involved the sexual exploitation of minors.
Korshunova, who is nicknamed “the Russian Rapunzel” due to her long hair, worked with a number of major fashion houses, including Marc Jacobs, DKNY, and Vera Wang, and is considered to be a promising model in the industry. She died on June 28, 2008, after falling off her ninth-floor balcony in New York City. She was 20 years old at the time of her death.
After her death, Korshunova’s ex-boyfriend told The New York Post that the young woman had struggled with emotional issues before her death, dealing with personal issues she tended to keep “bottled up.” He said she had recently lost a lot of weight and struggled to balance her work life and personal life.
Before she died, the young woman had left messages indicating trouble with her love life and telling loved ones she missed family and home country, the ex-boyfriend said. She told her manager she did not know what to do with her life.
“I think she just gave up,” the ex-boyfriend told the newspaper.
The newly released Epstein-related documents are part of thousands of pages unsealed as a civil case related to Epstein’s network, providing further information about the breadth of Epstein’s connections and travel before his conviction in 2008 and death while incarcerated in 2019.
