On this week’s exclusive podcast with Law & Crime, ‘The Rise and Fall of Diddy,’ attorney Donte Mills shed more light on new information pertaining to the litigated matter of Cassie Ventura versus Music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The attorney said Mills revealed Cassie first sought a non-public attempt at her abuse and misconduct claims against Combs.
According to Mills, Cassie approached Combs to discuss allegations of sexual assault, coercion, and abuse stemming from their tumultuous 11-year relationship. Despite her attempts to settle the matter quietly, talks broke down when Diddy allegedly offered her an “eight-figure” settlement in exchange for her silence. Cassie declined the offer, asserting that she was seeking accountability rather than a payout.
In November 2023, Cassie filed a high-profile lawsuit detailing the alleged misconduct. Diddy publicly refuted the claims, calling the lawsuit “blatant blackmail.” However, just one day after the suit was filed, both parties reached an undisclosed settlement. In statements following the resolution, Cassie expressed that her goal was closure, while Diddy wished her well and maintained his innocence.
Mills remarked that this case was pivotal in shifting public and legal scrutiny toward Combs, whose career and personal life have since been engulfed by controversy. In March 2024, Diddy was arrested as part of a sex trafficking investigation, further intensifying his legal woes.
“This lawsuit was the catalyst,” Mills stated. “It opened the door for a deeper look into behaviors that had been shielded for decades.”
While the settlement between Cassie and Diddy has brought her some closure, the ripple effects continue to challenge the legacy of one of the entertainment industry’s most prominent figures.
