The holidays are a busy season, and between caroling, cooking, and gathering with friends and family, everyone could use a little downtime during Christmas.
During those small moments of downtime, nothing’s better than turning to your favorite streaming platform and putting on a good Christmas movie to unwind.
Not sure what holiday movies to catch on Hulu? Read on for a few picks to keep the Yuletide spirit alive.
The Perfect Holiday
In The Perfect Holiday, Nancy (Gabrielle Union), a divorced mom of three, is hit on by a handsome stranger (Morris Chesnut). The two start dating just in time for the holidays. Unbeknownst to Nancy, her new beau is a mall Santa who was paid by her daughter to engage with her. Queen Latifah (who produced the film), Charlie Murphy and Terrence Howard also star in this Christmas rom-com.
Mistle-Tones
The holidays and music go hand in hand, and Mistle-Tones, a Freeform original movie from when it was ABC Family, takes advantage of their symbiotic relationship. The movie sees Holly (Tia Mowry), after being rejected from a local Christmas singing group her late mother founded, form her own group to challenge them at a Christmas Eve sing-off. It’s a cheery musical that keeps spirits high.
Elf
Will Ferrell is at the top of his game in Elf. The modern classic tells the story of Buddy (Ferrell), a human raised with elves at the North Pole, who learns his biological father, Walter (James Caan), is on Santa’s naughty list. Buddy then travels to New York City to meet him in this cross-generational and funny Christmas comedy.
Happiest Season
Happiest Season nails the intimate tenderness the holiday season fosters. The 2020 movie centers on Abby, played by Kristen Stewart, a young woman who plans to propose to her longtime girlfriend Harper, played by Mackenzie Davis. Abby’s plans are halted when she learns that Harper has not come out to her family yet, and as the two attempt to hide their relationship while visiting the family for Christmas, their relationship is tested.
Die Hard
Die Hard did the unthinkable in 1988: it made an action thrilled movie a Christmas one too. Now, it’s the quintessential anti-Christmas film — it’s only connection to the holiday is that it takes place at a Christmas Eve holiday party. It’s the perfect choice for anyone in need of a break from jingle bells and chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
