CBS Upholds Firing Of ‘Matlock’ Star David Del Rio After Reopening Internal Investigation

CBS is standing strong with its decision to fire Matlock star David Del Rio.

According to TMZ, CBS is not wavering from letting Del Rio go, even though Del Rio has presented new evidence in an attempt to clear himself of sexual wrongdoing.

While CBS hasn’t commented on its decision, Del Rio has taken to the blogs via his attorney, Shawn Holley, who unsuccessfully had CBS reopen the actor’s case.

Holley has told TMZ on Friday regarding her client’s case, “The book is far from closed.”

As far as CBS is concerned, though, it appears the book for Del Rio ever returning to the Matlock set is, in fact, done and dusted.

When was David Del Rio fired from ‘Matlock’?

Del Rio was fired in October 2025 after CBS Studios and Matlock execs were notified of a sexual assault allegation. The incident occurred on Sept. 26 of that year between Del Rio and his co-star, Leah Lewis.

Matlock producers and the studio quickly investigated the claim Oct. 2, leading to Del Rio getting escorted from studio property the same day.

Del Rio’s character, Billy Martinez, has since been seamlessly written off as leaving the law firm to deal with an ongoing family emergency.

Matlock, starring Kathy Bates in the title role, has been renewed for a third season. The series also stars Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, Beau Bridges, Eme Ikwuakor, and Yael Grobglas.
