Melinda Irizarry, a pregnant woman in Florida, is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed 14 times allegedly by a pizza delivery driver. According to People, Irizarry was stabbed at a motel in Kissimmee, Florida, on Sunday after the delivery woman, Brianna Alvelo, allegedly became angry about the amount of tip she received. Police said Alvelo returned with another man after delivering the pizza, and the pair allegedly forced their way into the room.
Police have now arrested 22-year-old Alvelo and charged her for home invasion with a firearm, attempted murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
“The victim had ordered pizza from a local restaurant earlier in the evening, and Alvelo became upset about the tip she had received,” police said in a statement, per People. “Alvelo later returned to the victim’s motel room with an unknown male suspect, who was armed with a firearm, and forced their way into the room.”
The male suspect, however, has not been identified, police said.

According to ABC News, Irizarry ordered the pizza when she was staying in the motel with her boyfriend and 5-year-old daughter. The family spent about $33 on the pizza, but Alvelo allegedly became upset after getting a $2 tip, the arrest affidavit stated. Alvelo and the male suspect, who was allegedly carrying a pistol, came back to the motel dressed in all black and wearing masks, per the police report.
According to police, the pair allegedly barged into the family’s room and forced Irizarry’s boyfriend to go into the bathroom. While Alvelo allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and rummaged through the family’s belongings, Irizarry tried to protect her daughter.
The pregnant mother “threw her daughter onto the bed and attempted to pick up her phone,” the affidavit stated. That’s when Alvelo allegedly smashed the phone and struck the woman “multiple times with the knife” before running from the scene.
Irizarry sustained a ruptured lung after being stabbed 14 times. She also had injuries to her chest, arms, legs and abdomen, per the affidavit. While being treated for her injuries, Irizarry learned that she’s pregnant.
