A24 has dropped the first trailer for Backrooms, the upcoming film from Kane Parsons that stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve.
It’s based on the viral, found-footage YouTube series from Parsons and written by Will Soodik. It is Parsons’ directorial debut. Per Variety, Parsons signed with A24 when he was just 19, becoming the youngest filmmaker to work with the studio. The Backrooms digital series first debuted in 2022, “and focused on the story of a therapist searching for her patient who vanished mysteriously into a dimension beyond reality.”
The logline is as brief and simple as A24 typically keeps their synopses: “A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.”
Who else stars in ‘Backrooms’?
Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell also star in the pic.
Chernin Entertainment co-financed the film with A24, and both are the studios for the title. Producing are Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps Entertainment. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine produce for 21 Laps Entertainment, with Chris Ferguson producing for Oddfellows Pictures, and Roberto Patino also producing. James Wan and Michael Clear also produce for Atomic Monster. Judson Scott and Chris White executive produce.
‘Backrooms’ release date
The film is in theaters on May 29. Watch the trailer below:
