The exchange occurred last week on the floor of the House of Representatives, where Ocasio-Cortez says she was approached by the congressman who posed the unexpected question. In a response that quickly gained attention on social media, Ocasio-Cortez clarified the situation in a candid statement.
“A Republican came to me on the floor this week and asked me if I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant, guys,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a brief video posted to her social media accounts. “I had a lot of food at Thanksgiving. Okay. It happens.”
