An HBCU volleyball team snapped a six-year conference losing streak on Sunday

The South Carolina State volleyball program has seen some dark days over the course of a decade, but Sunday afternoon, some light emerged in the form of their first Mid-Eastern Conference win in a long time.

The Lady Bulldogs upset Morgan State at Hill Field House 3 sets to 1, securing the team’s first MEAC victory since the 2018 season.

South Carolina State’s last MEAC volleyball win came on September 28, 2018, a three-set sweep of Savannah State, who has since moved back to Division II and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Lady Bulldogs had lost 77 consecutive MEAC regular season matches before defeating the Lady Bears on Sunday.

SCSU is led by former program standout Melissa Robinson]Paige, who led the team to the NCAA tournament in 2010 and features four sophomores, three freshmen, and just two seniors.

With a 77-game slide finally behind them, it appears the South Carolina State volleyball program is headed for better days.
