Alessia Cara finally announced the title and release date of her highly anticipated fourth studio album, Love & Hyperbole. The album is scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025, to make it a sure Valentine’s Day gift from this artist. In the meantime, Cara has given a taster of the upcoming album in the form of a new single, titled “(Isn’t It) Obvious,” featuring John Mayer’s guitar solo and a music video from director Gordy De St. Jeor.
The singer announced the title and release date of her album on Good Morning America this week, where she also performed her new single for the first time. “(Isn’t It) Obvious” had been teased earlier in the month, during the Season 26 premiere of Law & Order: SVU. Cara wrote in a social media post that “I’m so happy to finally share this w you and I can’t wait for you to hear the rest of what I feel is my best work to date—or at least my personal favourite.”
(Isn’t It) Obvious” was written by Cara and the producer, Yakob; it has this smooth, soulful R&B touch, perfectly complementing its lyrics-a deep, undeniable connection. Much of the emotional depth Cara brings to the track is captured within her poetic line, “Fears are only constellations, only glowing if we make them.”. The track is the follow-up to July’s “Dead Man,” a brassy, soulful track that was the first look at Love & Hyperbole. Where “Dead Man” takes on emotional distance, Cara detailed that “(Isn’t It) Obvious” examines the physical separation but reassures of love in spite of the distance.
Love & Hyperbole is Cara’s first album in about ten years since her breakthrough hit “Here” reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, she has remained prolific with hits such as “Scars to Your Beautiful”, her collaboration with Zedd on “Stay”, and the haunting “1-800-273-8255” featuring Logic and Khalid. In 2018 Cara became the first Canadian to ever take home the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Her second album, The Pains of Growing, went on to win Album of the Year at the 2020 Juno Awards, further solidifying her as one of Canada’s top musical talents.
