Alessia Cara was among those to take a shot at TMZ after it published graphic images of Liam Payne’s body in their report of his death. Photos which quickly became the source of outrage on multiple fronts across social media were enough to make Cara tweet out, “you’re gross @TMZ,” as she expressed her feelings of disgust with such insensitivity by the outlet.
The backlash was immediate, as fans and celebrities alike ripped TMZ for the way it handled such a tragedy. Many called out the publication for choosing shock value over basic decency, continuing a long history of questionable coverage.
Since that public outrage, TMZ has taken the images out of the article. However, no formal apology or statement about the backlash has been given.
Cara’s tweet is getting a lot of traction on the social networking site as many people have commended her for standing up against exploitative media practices.
