Albany State dominates Lane College without star quarterback at helm

Playing without star quarterback Isaiah Knowles, the Albany State Golden Rams don’t miss a beat, securing a dominant 47-6 win on the road against the Lane Dragons.

Knowles was held out of this game after suffering an injury in the Golden Rams’ win over Allen last week, keeping him from playing in the second half.

Albany State improves to 3-0 against the SIAC with the win, retaining a three-way tie at the top of the SIAC with Benedict and Edward Waters.

With the passing game compromised, the Golden Rams turned to their run game to get the job done, producing 265 rushing yards on a season-high 49 attempts.

Tiant Wyche led the team with 80 rushing yards on 15 attempts, while Sincere Rodriguez accounted for 72 rushing yards on nine attempts and a touchdown.

The Golden Rams’ defense also stepped up to limit Lane to 200 offensive yards, including a season-low 91 rushing yards (lowest against a Division II opponent).

Albany State got out to a quick lead, scoring on its first two extended offensive drives to take a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

In response to Lane’s only score of the game, Golden Rams receiver Cameron Watts took the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown (his second kick return touchdown of the season).

The defense then got in on the action, forcing a safety on a holding penalty in the end zone, and recovering a forced fumble for a touchdown to take a 30-6 lead.

Albany State would keep the pressure on Lane defensively, allowing just 58 total yards in the second half while scoring two touchdowns of its own to further cement its victory.
