Alabama A&M names Sam Shade next head football coach

Alabama A&M has it’s next coach.

AAMU athletic director Paul Bryant announced on Sunday during the From the Hill Podcast that the school hired Miles College coach Sam Shade.

“This is a new and exciting time to bring Coach Sam Shade to the Hill,” Bryant said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and proven success to a program ready to thrive. His vast resources in the State and impeccable relationships with his team made him the perfect candidate for Alabama A&M University.”

Shade, a Birmingham native who played college football at Alabama before being selected in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft, previously led Miles College to an 18-15 record over three seasons, including a 10-3 record in 2024 and a trip to the Division I playoffs.

Miles won a postseason game for the first time in its history and advanced to the second round.

Shade replaces Connell Maynor, who was not retained by Alabama A&M after seven seasons.
