Mia Khalifa discussed a little-known way to support public libraries.
This began when someone asked on X, “How many people actually have library cards as adults?”
Mia Khalifa answered this question with, “Me & in cities I don’t live in anymore bc public funding for each library is based on the number of members, so it benefits them to have a card you never even use.”
According to a 2019 survey by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a library’s budget is affected by the number of cardholders it has. On average, $44.88 per person is spent in America.
