‘Moana’ Live-Action Film’s New Trailer Sees Dwayne Johnson, Catherine Laga’aia Bring Characters To Life

Moana fans are getting a look at Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as demigod Maui in Disney’s live-action adaptation of its 2016 hit animated film.

The trailer for the live-action Moana also reveals Catherine Laga’aia as Moana, the young chieftain’s daughter who searches the seas for a way to help her village survive Te Fiti. John Tui also stars as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother, Sina and Rena Owen as Moana’s Gramma Tala.

‘Artistry of Moana’ featurette also released

Disney also released a featurette called “Artistry of Moana,” in which Johnson, Laga’aia, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Tiana Nonosina Liufau and costume designer Liz McGregor talk about what it took to bring Moana to life.

Kail executive produces with original Moana voice actor Auli’i Cravalho, Scott Sheldon and Charles Newirth. Johnson produces with Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda’s original songs with Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina also feature in the film, as well as Mancina’s original score.

Moana comes to theaters July 10.
