Odessa A’Zion reveals that auditioning for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid was one of the toughest experiences she’s had in her career. She froze during the audition. She forgot the words to one of the film’s most famous songs.
Speaking with Variety, A’Zion revealed what it was like to audition for the role of Ariel and to perform ‘Part of Your World’ from the film.
“I was so nervous that I forgot the lyrics to ‘Part of Your World,’ “A’Zion revealed.
She explained that she began singing in a princess voice to match Ariel’s character.
“Because I was doing it in Ariel’s voice, you know, like a princess voice,” she said.
However, the people she was auditioning for had other plans and told her to sing in her normal voice.
“Then they’re like, ‘Just do it normal.’ I couldn’t do it normal,” she said.
She explained that she had practiced the audition in the princess voice and had a hard time switching to her normal voice midway through.
“I memorized it in that voice,” she explained.
This experience pretty much derailed her chances of getting a role in the film.
“Didn’t hear about, didn’t get a callback,” she said.
