Google Messages’ Copy And Paste Update: Here’s What Was Fixed

Google is fixing an oversight in its default messaging app. According to Android Authority, Android users have long complained about the inability to copy only part of a text message in Google’s default texting app. Until now, users only had the option to copy the entire message.

Because the app didn’t allow partial copying, users often had to take extra steps to work around the issue. Some people would copy the entire message into a notes app or another writing platform and then copy only the specific portion of text they wanted.

When is Google rolling out the update?

The new fix for Google’s messaging app is currently available as a beta version, Android Authority reported. Users can now long-press a message and select portions of the text to copy, though they can still use the “copy” button to grab the entire message.

The beta rollout is not yet available on all Android phones, but a wider rollout is expected for Android users soon.

When users long-press a message, the usual menu will appear. Now, however, people can highlight and select specific parts of the text. The menu also gives users the options to copy, star or forward the message.

Other updates to Google’s messaging app

In addition to allowing users to copy portions of a message, Google has introduced several other updates to its messaging app in recent months.

According to Phone Arena, recent updates include the ability to pin chats, create photomojis and send stickers.

Google is also allowing users on some phones to see the editing history for revised text messages. The feature was removed last year, but the company now appears to be bringing it back, per Phone Arena.
