Doja Cat has spoken out about her struggles with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in a new TikTok video where she defends fellow pop artist Chappell Roan against the criticism that has surrounded her for speaking out about her discomfort in public.
In the TikTok video, Doja Cat opened up about her struggles with mental health issues. She said that she has learned over the years to hide her true emotions by pretending that everything is okay, that she likes something, that everything is fine, that she is happy, or that she does not like something that she does like.

“I’ve learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I’m happy, to pretend that I don’t like stuff that I do, to appear like everything is okay. It caught up with me, and I think it always does for people.”
The singer went on to say that she is “struggling with BPD” and that this mental health disorder has probably been a part of her for a long time.
“I’m now struggling with BPD. I don’t know how long I’ve been. I mean, probably forever. It’s an agonizing condition.”
She also said that she has been in therapy for a while now and that it has been a long-term journey for her.
“I’ve been in therapy for years now, and I am so relieved and so proud of myself. I’ve made it so far. And I still make mistakes, but it is like an eight-year process of treatment and healing to cure it.”
Speaking Out in Defense of Chappell Roan
Meanwhile, in the TikTok video, Doja Cat was seen drawing a connection between her experiences with public scrutiny and the backlash against Roan for showing her discomfort or amusement in public settings.
“Disclaimer, I’m not diagnosing Chappell Roan with BPD. I’m saying that there is a connection to the way that people are treating Chappell Roan for showing her discomfort or showing her unamusement.”
The rapper also praised Roan for showing her genuine emotions while in public settings.
“I f— love that she does it. I love that she can be uncomfortable comfortably in front of people and protect herself and be honest.”
The rapper also shared that learning to be honest about one’s emotions is not easy. For Doja Cat, it took years to learn how to be honest about her emotions.
“I had to learn how to be honest. I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life.”
Talking about Paparazzi and Resellers
The rapper also talked about the misunderstanding surrounding how some people treat celebrities when they ask for their autographs. Doja Cat explained that most people who ask for autographs are not actually fans but resellers who sell signed items from their favorite stars.
“Resellers are people who show up, they pose as fans, and they ask for signatures. They are not fans.”
As explained by Doja Cat, the process can also include signing the items and taking a picture for authentication before selling them.
“To sign every single demand from a reseller, to sign every single thing, to take a picture to prove that you signed it with them… that’s the real process,” she said.
The artist said that although she understands the hustle, the performers do not have to sign everything or take every photo.
“The only thing is, if I’m not in the mood, I don’t have to. And that’s okay,” she said.
A Call for Understanding
Doja Cat ended her message by reiterating her support for Roan and encouraging fans to think twice before complaining about artists who voice their frustrations or set limits on their interactions with fans.
“These artists aren’t just ignoring people because they’re full of themselves,” she said. “Chappell Roan is not hurting anybody.”
She said that artists must be allowed to express themselves freely, including having an attitude when they are bothered by fans.
“Let her have an attitude,” Doja Cat said. “Because I would love to have one as well.”
