Marlon Wayans is discussing why Shannon Elizabeth is not part of the movie, even as many of the original cast members are returning for the Scary Movie series.
Elizabeth, who was a part of the original Scary Movie, was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight, where she explained that she had hoped to return for the latest installment, Scary Movie 6, but was not called upon to do so.
“I was hoping to be a part of it, but I didn’t get the call,” Elizabeth explained to the outlet.
Wayans, who wrote the movie, explained Shannon Elizabeth’s absence, even as many of the original cast members are returning for the latest installment of the Scary Movie series.
“Love Shannon, definitely wasn’t personal,” Wayans explained to The Shade Room. “But there were just too many people coming back.”
Although Shannon Elizabeth is not a part of the latest installment, Wayans explained that the door is not closed on the actress returning for a later installment of the series.
“The franchise isn’t going anywhere, so maybe down the line somewhere,” Wayans explained to The Shade Room.
Many of the original cast members are returning for the latest installment of the Scary Movie series, which includes Marlon Wayans as Shorty, Shawn Wayans as Ray, Anna Faris as Cindy, and Regina Hall as Brenda.
According to the movie’s synopsis, it follows the Core Four 26 years after they left, as a suspiciously familiar masked killer known as Ghostface emerges. The Core Four are once again the target of the killer as the movie makes fun of the latest horror movie trends, including reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, and movies labeled as final chapters.
Scary Movie 6 is scheduled for release on June 12.
