French social media influencer Maddy Burciaga is under fire from an animal rights group after she confessed to leaving her pet dog behind in Dubai amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Burciaga, who is 32 years old, stated that she relocated to Mauritius with her family after missiles and drones attacked the UAE. The social media star told her 2.7 million Instagram followers that her pet dog stayed in Dubai with her family’s nanny after they relocated to Mauritius.
“It was too complicated because there’s too much paperwork,” she told her followers about leaving her pet dog behind in Dubai.
The social media influencer’s statement was met with instant criticism from an animal rights group known as La Ligue Des Animaux. The group said in an online post that Burciaga left Dubai for Mauritius due to rising tensions in the Middle East, leaving her dog with the nanny because it was “too complicated because there’s too much paperwork.”
“A dog, for its part, would never leave its human to save its own skin. Dogs are ready to go through a war just to stay with their humans. That’s the difference between loyalty… and comfort.”
The group also added that even if Burciaga wanted to protect her family by relocating, she should have at least started preparing to bring the dog back with her.
“Even if she wanted to ‘protect’ her family by taking refuge elsewhere, she could at least have begun preparing to bring her dog back. She has done no such thing,” the statement added.
The organization concluded the statement with a remark about the influencer’s actions.
“Try asking someone this superficial for strategy or deep reflection… It’s a lost cause. Shame on her.”
Burciaga, whose real name is Maddy Samat, born Scheidler, is from Pont-à-Mousson, located in northeastern France. She is the owner of a cosmetics company named Mlips Cosmetics.
Burciaga rose to popularity after appearing on the French reality television dating show “Qui veut épouser mon fils?” or “Who Wants to Marry My Son?” in 2015.
This is not the first time Burciaga has been criticized for something.
Years ago, Burciaga faced criticism for promoting her cosmetics company as if they had partnered with the animal welfare organization named Fondation Brigitte Bardot.
Burciaga had been posting on social media about donating 25% of the profits from her product sales to the organization. In addition, she was also seen taking pictures with a lion cub.
However, the organization clarified that it had neither partnered with Burciaga nor agreed to receive money from the sale of Burciaga’s products.
