The MEAC women’s basketball tournament begins Wednesday at 12 p.m. with Howard as the tournament’s top seed.
The Bison are considered favorites to win it, but with several talented players on the other seven teams, anything is possible.
Here are 5 players to watch in the MEAC women’s tournament.
Da’Brya Clark, 5’7 jr. guard, Norfolk State
Clark is Norfolk State’s leading scorer at 14.4 points per game and ranks in the Spartans’ top three in nearly every major statistical category.
Clark has games of eight and nine three-pointers made to her credit this season, so anyone playing Norfolk State should be aware of her around the three-point line.
Ashanti Lynch, 5’9 sr. guard, Maryland Eastern Shore
Lynch has played more minutes for the Fighting Hawks than any other player this season and she’s made good use of her time.
Lynch leads the team in scoring, second in rebounds, assist and steals and shoots 80.6 percent from the free throw line.
Paris McBride, 5’6 sr. guard, Coppin State
An assistant coach at a junior college a year ago, McBride’s return to the court is one of this season’s best stories.
She’s second on the Eagles in scoring (9.2), has made the most three-pointers (42) and leads the team in assists (109) and free throw percentage (82.1).
Morgan Callahan, 6’1 grad. forward, North Carolina Central
Callahan, the MEAC preseason player of the year, finished second in scoring at Central while leading in rebounds and steals.
If the Eagles are to make a run in this tournament, Callahan must be at her best.
Ja’la Bannerman, 5’7 sr. guard, Morgan State
A transfer from UMES, Bannerman has stabilized a young Bears backcourt with her scoring and defensive efforts.
Bannerman and the Bears will have their hands full with Norfolk State, but if they can make it competitive, who knows what could happen.
