‘Scary Movie’ Trailer Drops and Absolutely No Horror Franchise Is Safe

Marlon Wayans plays Shorty, Regina Hall plays Brenda and Shawn Wayans plays Ray in Scary Movie from Paramount Pictures.

The killer is back. The jokes are better. And no film is off-limits.

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for “Scary Movie,” an unhinged, fourth-wall-busting return to the horror-parody series that helped define an era. The film is set to be released on June 12, 2026, and judging by the trailer, it is ready to carve its way through modern-day Hollywood with a bloody grin.

Twenty-six years after running away from a suspiciously recognizable masked killer, the original team is back. The film stars Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall, reprising their iconic roles as they once again face off against the killer, who is legally different but somehow still totally recognizable. The trailer gets right to it, plunging us into a world where no film is off-limits.

According to the film’s official synopsis, no horror intellectual property is safe. Elevated horror, horror sequels, horror films that claim to be the final chapter but somehow still manage to be chapter eight, and prequels about killers no one asked for. They all get skewered.

The film is an A Wayans Brothers Presentation, marking the full-on creative return of the family responsible for kick-starting the film series back in 2000. The film is written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez, with the Wayans family producing alongside Alvarez. Michael Tiddes is directing.

The supporting cast adds to the mayhem with Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, and Sydney Park.

The trailer takes the meta approach to humor. The characters complain about franchise fatigue, try to sidestep the concept of cinematic universes, and go crazy trying to determine if they’re in a reboot or a soft reboot. At one point, someone says nothing is sacred, just as the film appears to parody pretty much all major horror franchises from the past decade.

The first ‘Scary Movie’ was a box-office phenomenon and spawned a series of sequels, becoming one of the most successful spoof franchises ever made.

‘Scary Movie’ hits theaters nationwide on June 12, 2026.
