An Iranian-American woman has gone viral on social media as the US and Israel continue to advance their major military operation against Iran, winning praise and backlash alike due to her celebratory posts on the ongoing war.
The X social media user, who goes by the handle “Mooneh,” has gained millions of views over the weekend after she posted several strong messages in response to the US-Israeli operation that began on February 28, intending to overthrow the Iranian government.
Her first post, which has gained over 2 million views, read: “I’m Iranian and I want to tell every leftist pro-Palestine person to shut the f— up about Iran’s situation rn, It’s none of your business bitch, u were silent about the Iran massacre, you better keep it that way now.”
Her second post, which has gained almost 2 million views, is completely different in tone and content, with the woman expressing joy and happiness over the ongoing war in Iran and the death of the country’s supreme leader.
The woman wrote: “I woke up to this news, cried with joy, and today is the best day of my life. Today I’m the happiest, luckiest girl in the world. Iran is getting free, and this is what I wanted my whole life.”
Based on information on the woman’s publicly available social media handles, she is from the US. Her posts have been shared widely on X and Instagram, where people have shared screenshots and reaction videos analyzing the woman’s content and position as an Iranian-American woman who is in support of the ongoing war in Iran and the death of the country’s supreme leader.
President Donald Trump announced on Saturday morning that the US, with the aid of the Israelis, had begun a major operation to destroy Iran’s nuclear and missile facilities, navy, and top leaders. In a video message to the Iranian people, President Trump stated that Iran would be “yours to take. This will probably be your only chance for generations.”
On Saturday, President Trump announced that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had been killed during the assault on Iran. Security officials from the country of Israel had stated that Khamenei was killed when his top-security hideaway was bombed, along with several of his top leaders.
Iranian state media reported that Khamenei was alive and “steadfast and firm in commanding the field.” They later reported that Khamenei and his entire family were killed during the assault.
“Iran considers it its legitimate duty and right to avenge the perpetrators and masterminds of this historic crime,” Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated after the death of the ayatollah.
Iran retaliated immediately, striking the country of Israel and the US military sites throughout the Gulf area. The governments of Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates stated that Iran targeted them. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that they would retaliate and that they would be striking more sites throughout the area.
The Israelis stated that their air force dropped more than 1,200 bombs on 24 of Iran’s 31 provinces during the joint assault with the US. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that they launched strikes on 27 sites throughout the Middle East where the US troops were stationed, along with the Israelis’ military sites in Tel Aviv and other locations.
The Iranian state-linked media and the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported at least 201 deaths and 747 injuries in Iran as the rescue efforts continue. There have been explosions reported in several cities, including what Israel reported to be a “large aerial attack on the heart of the capital.”
The biggest incident reported was in the southeastern city of Minab, where an elementary girls’ school was allegedly hit by the strike, killing at least 148 people and injuring 95 others. This number is still rising as the rescue efforts continue.
In Israel, the Iranian ballistic missile strike on the central city of Beit Shemesh killed eight people and injured around 20 on Sunday afternoon. A woman in the Tel Aviv area was also killed due to falling shrapnel on Saturday night, and at least 121 others have been injured. At least 40 buildings in Tel Aviv have been damaged, according to Haaretz.
The US Central Command reported Sunday night that at least three US service members have been killed and five seriously injured in the Iranian attack.
“Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are in the process of being returned to duty. Major combat operations continue, and our response effort is ongoing,” the US Central Command reported Sunday night.
The Iranian missiles have hit the US 5th Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain in the Juffair area. According to the Bahrain Interior Ministry report, the international airport has also been targeted by an Iranian drone, which has damaged the airport but resulted in no deaths. There have been strikes on the residential buildings in Manama, and four people have been treated due to shrapnel injuries.
In Iraq, US and Israeli forces targeted the Jurf al-Sakher military base in southern Iraq, which houses the Popular Mobilisation Forces and Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah militia group. According to reports from Iraq’s state media and Kataib Hezbollah sources, two fighters were killed, and five others were injured in the attack.
There were reports of blasts near the US consulate and the international airport in Erbil, Iraq’s semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan. However, air defenses were able to intercept the drone attacks.
In Kuwait, the country’s Ministry of Defence said that Ali al-Salem Air Base was targeted by ballistic missiles, all of which were intercepted by Kuwaiti air defenses. There was also a drone attack on Kuwait International Airport that resulted in minor injuries and damage.
In Oman, two drones were fired at the Duqm port facility, injuring one foreign worker. A Palau-flagged oil tanker was attacked off the coast of Oman’s Musandam governorate, injuring four people.
In Qatar, two ballistic missiles were fired at Al Udeid Air Base, which houses US military personnel. A drone was fired at Qatar’s early warning radar system. In all, 16 people were injured in the attack, mostly from falling debris.
In the United Arab Emirates, at least three people were killed, and 58 others were injured by Sunday afternoon. In one attack, a Pakistani national was killed after being hit by falling debris near Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. In another attack, one person was killed by falling shrapnel in a residential area. In another attack on Dubai International Airport and Palm Jumeirah, several people were injured.
According to reports from the UAE’s Defence Ministry, 165 ballistic missiles were detected, and UAE air defenses destroyed 152, while two cruise missiles were intercepted.
