Everything To Know About ‘Pokémon Winds And ‘Pokémon Waves’ So Far, Including The Starters

Pokémon is introducing a new generation that will appear in two new upcoming games. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will launch in 2027 and feature brand new Pokémons, adventures and worlds to explore.

It’s the 10th generation of Pokémon to be introduced since the first video game Pocket Monsters: Red and Green, launched in Japan in 1996. Here’s everything we know about the games’ upcoming release.

A brand new generation of Pokémon

Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, according to the company. For the first time, the games will be supported in Brazilian Portuguese to broaden access for international fans.

What are the starter Pokémon for these new games?

The 10th generation of Pokémon will feature three signature starter Pokémon: Brow, a grass-type chick, Browt, a fiery Pomeranian-inspired Pombon and Gecqua, a water gecko.

Players will be able to choose from a male or female trainer, whose outfit will vary depending on the version of the game played. The games will also introduce two new Pikachu wearing tropical looks: Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. The teaser presentation showed a male Pikachu with sunglasses, a floral shirt and a sunhat, while a female Pikachu was seen wearing a cap and dress, according to Gizmodo. It is unknown if both Pikachu will appear in both games or if only one will appear in each.

“The Pokémon that live in harmony with this region’s lush environment have developed their own unique ecosystems,” the company teased about the upcoming 10th generation. “During this adventure, you’ll team up with all kinds of Pokémon to overcome both the difficult road ahead and even the forces of nature that block your path at times.”

Where will the new Pokémon games take place?

The region where the games take place was unnamed in the teaser trailer.

“These new titles feature an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves,” the company shared.

The teaser showed a tropical forest with a roaming Tropius and Gloom, an ocean featuring a Wailord, plains with Tailow and a volcano with Slugma, according to Variety. The teaser also showed a tower floating in the water that appears to be a gym and a beach town with buildings connected by aquatic bridges.

Different Pokémon appear to show up depending on the early morning, sunset and dusk. The teaser video ended with a knock at an ocean home, where the two new Pikachu appeared.

Other Pokémon games are expected to be released this year, including Pokémon Champions, which will drop on Nintendo Switch in April before being made available on mobile devices. According to Variety, the games FireRed, LeafGreen and the 2005 GameCube game Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will also soon be available on Nintendo Switch Online.
