‘Is God Is’ Trailer: Vivica A. Fox Is A Vengeful God In Bold And Thrilling First Look At Star-Studded Film

The official trailer for the film adaptation of Is God Is has fans ready to buy tickets now.

The film stars Kara Young and Mallori Johnson as two sisters on a mission from God, their mother (Vivica A. Fox). Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross and Sterling K. Brown also star.

Online, fans of the story and movie lovers alike have been immediately entranced by the trailer, with many people saying they are hyped to see the cast take on this boundary-pushing story.

As we previously reported, a film adaptation of the play was first in the works back in 2018 at A24 before it resurfaced in 2024 at Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures.

The film is based on writer-director Aleshea Harris’s play

The film is based on Alesha Harris’ play of the same name, which follows twin sisters who are on a mission of revenge for their mother. Their mother–who is also God–wants her daughters to search the California desert to find and kill their father.

The play has been praised for how it approaches and analyzes generational violence. It also earned the 2016 American Playwriting Foundation Relentless Award and four Obie Awards.

Harris makes her directorial debut with this film, and also serves as screenwriter. Harris also produces with Tessa Thompson, Janicza Bravo, Kishori Rajan and Riva Marker. Executive producers include Stacy O’Neil, Nicole King and Kenneth Yu. Orion Pictures produces with Linden Entertainment, Amazon MGM Studios, Viva Maude and CYRK.
