The official trailer for “Is God Is,” the feature debut from playwright Aleshea Harris, has been released as the movie prepares for a theater run beginning May 15th.
Harris wrote and directed the movie, based on the award-winning play of the same name. “Is God Is” centers on two sisters and their epic revenge journey as they delve into a complicated family history.
Kara Young and Mallori Johnson star as the sisters. Also appearing in the movie are Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross, and Vivica A. Fox and Sterling K. Brown.
Harris’ work on the movie is based on the award-winning play. However, this is the playwright’s first time directing a feature. “Is God Is” takes the play’s genre-bending spirit and combines elements of Westerns, myth, and dark comedy.
According to the official synopsis for the movie, “Is God Is” centers on two sisters who embark on an epic revenge quest as they confront a charged family history.
The movie was produced by Tessa Thompson, Kishori Rajan (p.g.a.), Riva Marker (p.g.a.), Janicza Bravo, and Harris. Stacy O’Neil, Nicole King, and Kenneth Yu serve as the movie’s executive producers.
“Is God Is” hits theaters nationwide on May 15th.
