Costco Recalls These Mini Beignets That May Trigger Life-Threatening Reactions With Some People

Costco has recalled some of its caramel beignets after they were inadvertently filled with hazelnut chocolate instead. Tree nuts may trigger life-threatening allergic reactions in those who are allergic or sensitive to the product. Here is everything you need to know about the recall.

Costco recalled its Mini Beignets filled with Caramel

The mini beignets are sold in packs of 22 and packaged in clear clamshell containers. The item number is 1181272, while the UPC code is 000011 812722, according to the official FDA report.

The recall affects 8,073 packages, which were packaged between Jan. 16 to Jan. 30, 2026. Affected packages carry sell-by dates between Jan. 19 to Feb. 2, 2026.

The products were distributed in multiple states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, lowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

As such, the label failed to declare tree nuts as an allergen. The current product only features wheat, egg, milk and soy as allergens.

The recall was initially initiated on Jan. 31 and has since been raised to a Class 1, which is the highest risk warning. A class 1 is defined by the FDA as “having a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,” according to NTD.

Companies are required to identify allergens such as milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. The FDA refers to tree nuts as the following: almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, filberts, hazel nuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios and walnuts.

Tree nuts may trigger a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction in those who are allergic and consume the product.

What should you do if you’ve purchased the recalled caramel beignets from Costco?

If you have an allergy or sensitivity to tree nuts, do not consume the product. Costco advised customers to return it to the store for a full refund.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this recall may have caused,” Costco said in a notice.

Customers were also invited to visit Costco’s website with any questions.

Experts recommend consumers look for third-party testing indications on labels to make sure what they are buying has been properly vetted.

“The public should look for third-party testing to ensure that the products they are purchasing contain what the label claims,” managing partner Wagner Reese and attorney Stephen Wagner told NTD.

“Since the recall is voluntary, the manufacturer could very well have discovered the problem on their own,” Wagner added.
