The next chapter of the epic adventure of One Piece is almost here!
Netflix’s official trailer for One Piece: Into the Grand Line, aka Season 2, brings fans back into the magical and dangerous world of pirates, all of whom are searching for the famed One Piece treasure. The treasure would make its finder the King of the Pirates, and Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) plans on getting that title–and the treasure–for himself and his friends, the Straw Hat crew (Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero and Taz Skylar).
This season also includes Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday and Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha aka Doctorine. Additional cast includes Anton David Jeftha, Brendan Sean Murray, Callum Kerr, Camrus Johnson, Clive Russell, Daniel Lasker, David Dastmalchian, James Hiroyuki Liao, Jazzara Jaslyn, Joe Manganiello, Julia Rehwald, Lera Abova, Mark Harelik, Mark Penwill, Mikaela Hoover, Rigo Sanchez, Rob Colletti, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Sophia Anne Caruso, Ty Keogh, Werner Coetser and Yonda Thomas.
List of global fan screenings and activations
Along with the release of the trailer, Netflix has also announced the dates for 13 global fan screenings and activations. The locations and dates are Mexico City, Mexico (Feb. 23); Los Angeles (Feb. 26); Brussels, Belgium (Feb. 27-March 1); Paris, France (Feb. 28-March 1); Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (March 4-8); Tokyo, Japan (March 5); Jakarta, Indonesia (March 5-15); Milan, Italy (March 6-8); Cape Town, South Africa (March 8); Taguig, Philippines (March 13-15); Bangkok, Thailand (March 8-15); Kaohsiungj, Taiwan (March 14); and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (date in March TBA).
One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda, who serves as executive producer, released a special letter commemorating the upcoming debut of the second season.
“With Season 1, we faced the world’s question head-on: ‘Can ONE PIECE really be adapted into live-action?!’ –and the answer spoke for itself, reaching the Top 10 in 93 countries and territories, and No. 1 in 46!” he wrote. “Together with the stellar production team that delivered those brilliant results, we bring you Season 2, which will head into the Grand Line, the most formidable sea in the world. In other words, all the conventions that were established in Season 1 will be shattered.”
“A parade of Devil Fruit users, a race of giants never before seen, adorable creatures, hard-hitting action, and stunning VFX–this season is packed with even more highlights!!” he continued. “Let yourself be drawn into an immersive experience that’s unique to live-action. ONE PIECE is a live action pirate adventure created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partner) and Netflix.
Executive producing with Oda are Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, as well as Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes and Steven Maeda. Co-showrunners, writers and executive producers for Season 2 are Matt Owens and Joe Tracz.
