Delaware State’s men’s basketball team ended a long losing streak – as well as Maryland Eastern Shore’s unbeaten MEAC start
Kareem Watson scored 14 points off the bench and senior point guard Corey Perkins scored 12 and dished out five assists as the Hornets defeated the Fighting Hawks 65-57 to pick up their first conference win of the season and snap a six-game losing streak overall.
The loss is UMES’ first in MEAC play.
The Hornets (6-15 overall, 1-5 MEAC) took the lead for good at 15-12 on an Ademar Santos three-pointer with 9:06 to go in the first half.
DelState led by as many as 16 points (56-40) after a pair of Watson free throws, but the Hawks (8-14, 4-1 MEAC) closed to within five points (62-57) on a Michael Teal three-point play with 1:14 to go in the game.
DSU countered by running down some clock and Perkins passed to Miles Webb for a dunk while he was being fouled by Zion Obanla. Webb’s free throw closed the scoring.
