This fall, Howard University in Washington, D.C., launched a new Ph.D. program in interdisciplinary biomedical sciences (IBMS) to prepare students for a wide-range of careers across scientific and medical fields. The IBMS program combines the curricula from several existing STEM graduate programs into a single integrated training experience, with an emphasis on grant writing, scientific communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Students enrolled in the program can choose to focus on one of five areas of research specialization: anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, or physiology.
