Magazine Dreams, Jonathan Majors’ last role before his personal firestorm involving physical abuse allegations, has finally received a release date from Briarcliff Entertainment, with Zeus Network also on board as a marketing partner.
The film was written and directed by Elijah Bynum and quickly became a darling of the Sundance scene. Unfortunately, Majors’ legal troubles led Searchlight Pictures to drop the film, leaving it without a distributor. Majors also lost several roles, including the title role in a Dennis Rodman biopic.
When will ‘Magazine Dreams’ starring Jonathan Majors premiere?
Deadline reports that the film, which could have had Majors in Oscars territory before getting shelved for at least a year, is now set for a March 21, 2025 release via Briarcliff Entertainment.
Bynum released a statement about the film’s upcoming release, praising the fact that the film crew’s hard work will finally be seen by the mainstream public.
“Dozens of incredibly talented people poured their time, energy and creativity into bringing this film to life, and I am immensely proud of their work,” he said. “I’m grateful to Tom Ortenberg and Briarcliff Entertainment for their unwavering support, passion, and for giving this film the opportunity to reach a wider audience.”
With Zeus Network on board as marketing partner, the streamer’s CEO, Lemuel Plummer, has also been added as an executive producer on the film.
Since Majors’ legal issues, involving him getting officially convicted on two misdemeanor counts of harassment and physical assault against former girlfriend Grace Jabbari, Majors has had somewhat of a bounce-back in his career. First, Majors’ sentencing was relatively minor considering he was facing jail time–he was sentenced to only one year of domestic violence counseling as well as personal mental therapy sessions. He also has a permanent protection order against him preventing him from having any contact with Jabbari. Jabbari has also recently dropped her federal assault and defamation lawsuit against Majors, making Majors finally able to start looking at the legal system in the rearview mirror.
Majors has also received the Perseverance Award from the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards for his ability to show “that no matter what adversity they face, they will continue to aspire to inspire,” according to the awards show. Martin Villeneuve has also cast Majors in his first post-conviction role, the supernatural thriller Merciless. Majors will play a CIA agent who wants to save the love of his life from an evil presence. Filming has already started this fall in Saskatchewan.
