One person is dead, and nine others are injured after a shooting and a fiery crash in Towson, Maryland, on Tuesday night, police said.
Baltimore County Police responded to calls about a shooting around 7:15 p.m. at the 8500 block of Loch Raven Boulevard. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle turned on its side and in flames, police said at a news conference Tuesday night, WBAL and CBS News reported.
Baltimore County Police probe mass shooting and fiery crash
“It appears to be a mass shooting incident,” Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough told reporters, per CBS News. “We have multiple persons who were shot. Right now, we are determining the circumstances and the conditions in this case.”
The shooting victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
While it was initially unclear how many sustained gunshot wounds, a news release obtained by WBAL indicated that most of the victims had been shot.
Gunshots found outside of a funeral home
The vehicle in flames was near a funeral home, and gunshots were found outside the building. Police said they don’t think the shooting has anything to do with the funeral home.
“There appears to be some type of incident that led to the vehicle crashing and catching on fire,” McCollough said, according to CBS News. “Investigators are looking into the circumstances leading up to that.”
As of Wednesday morning, the nine victims remain hospitalized. The identity of the person killed and the cause of death has not yet been revealed.

‘We will leave no stone unturned’
Police believe this was an isolated incident and have been investigating by speaking with witnesses and collecting other helpful information.
There is no suspect or an arrest, and investigators are still working on a possible motive that led to both incidents.
“We will leave no stone unturned and we will dedicate every resource to this,” McCullough said, per CBS News. “We don’t generally see incidents like this in our community in Baltimore County. I assure you as your police chief that we will put all resources toward trying to clear this case.”
