Christina Milian and Devale Ellis‘s new Netflix film aims to restore people’s belief in true love.
In a tale about how true love and fate work hand in hand, Meet Me Next Christmas follows characters Teddy (Ellis) and Layla (Milian) as they look to create a Christmas miracle.
“In pursuit of a fairy-tale romance with the man of her dreams, Layla (Milian) must race through New York City to get her hands on the hottest ticket in town: the sold-out Pentatonix Christmas Eve Concert,” the official film description of the movie states.
What ‘Meet Me Next Christmas’ taught its stars
“It’s kind of like that saying, it’s written. It’s already written. So you’re just kind of like following the book of your life. … Throw it up in the air and follow. Let your wings fly, you know what I mean? You just got to go with it,” Milian told Blavity’s Shadow and Act. “I think this actual script for Meet Me Next Christmas, what it taught me is sometimes the best thing is sitting right under your nose. And I think especially in the instance, where Teddy and Layla meet each other randomly at the airport a year in advance, and then she has to go to him to help her find another man.”
“It’s so cute how it all plays out, and you just don’t expect it when she first meets him. Even the energy between them, how the sparks eventually fly, it’s a nice build-up, even in a quick way,” she continued. “I learned anything is possible, and it could happen in a really quick time.”
For Ellis, his character Teddy is a testament to the importance of having good women in your corner.
“There were parts in the movie where we watched these women speak life into Teddy,” he said. “Remember when we were in the kitchen, and his mom and Layla were telling him not only just about love but, ‘Go after that restaurant idea!’ And for a lot of men, it’s like when you have a woman that pushes you towards your purpose, it helps you fall in love. So to me that was a big part of the movie that I think people often miss because so many romantic comedies are about the female lead that they forget that man, the guy found love too, unexpectedly. And not only love, he found a partner and possibly a new business strategy.”
Will there be a ‘Meet Me Next Christmas’ sequel?
Fans have been raving on social media about what they want the next film to look like, and Milian and Ellis said they aren’t opposed to bringing it back to offer fans another movie with all the feels.
“All our fans have all these ideas, from Meet Me at the Altar — or maybe a baby, you know, Meet Me at the Hospital. Actually, imagine trying to get to the hospital and you know that somebody is having a baby,” Milian said.
Meet Me Next Christmas is now available to stream on Netflix.
